Urge DA Vasquez to hold federal agents accountable for harm caused in our city.
Multnomah County District Attorney, Nathan Vasquez, has the authority (and responsibility) to hold federal agents accountable when they violate Oregon law and harm our communities. This moment calls for clear, public leadership from Multnomah County’s chief prosecutor.
Last year, federal agents detained more than 1,900 immigrants in Oregon, increasingly targeting people at workplaces, hospitals and private homes. These actions have sown fear and instability in communities that deserve safety, dignity, and care.
We appreciate the leadership of Governor Kotek, Mayor Wilson, and other local officials in condemning recent federal enforcement actions and calling for a pause until federal use-of-force incidents are fully investigated. This week’s federal court ruling — which prohibits agents from using chemical munitions against community members unless they face an “imminent danger” — reinforces what communities have been saying all along.
Portlanders have shown up for one another in the face of federal overreach. Now, we need that same leadership from DA Vasquez.
