On Wednesday, May 3rd, a diverse group of public safety advocates gathered in Salem to ask lawmakers for continued support for Justice Reinvestment.
Thirty-six people met with 68 legislators, telling them about the great success that local jurisdictions are having with Justice Reinvestment, a program that achieves accountability through community supervision, addiction treatment, and other services that address the root causes of crime.
Together with PSJ, supporters of HB 5005 include the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association, Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police, Oregon Business Alliance, Oregon Association of Community Corrections Directors, Association of Oregon Counties, Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Associated Oregon Industries, ACLU of Oregon, and Oregon District Attorneys Association.
An unlikely but mighty alliance!
Justice Reinvestment (HB 5005) has a hearing in Ways and Means subcommittee on Public Safety on May 11th at 3:00 pm. Policy wonks can watch the livestream on OLIS here and then clicking on the tiny video graphic.
