Senate Bill 629 [1], Senator Vicki Walker’s bill to stop interest from accruing on judgments when a person is incarcerated, took another major step toward passage this week as it moved on a 7-0 vote from the House Judiciary Committee to the floor of the House with a do-pass recommendation.

Rep. Linda Flores will carry the bill on the House floor. Flores was joined by the other members of the Judiciary Committee in a bi-partisan vote. Chair Greg McPherson, Co-chairs Jeff Barker and Gene Whisnant, and Representatives Tobias Read, Susan Bonemicci, Betty Komp, Kevin Cameron and Wayne Krieger, joined Flores in voting YES to move the bill to the floor.
