WY: And the winner? Or is it the Loser?… Is Torrington

For years, Justice Matters has followed Wyoming’s plans for a new prison. There has been an ongoing struggle among three communities in Wyoming to be the site of this new medium security prison. In February, the Wyoming legislature approved Torrington as the site for the $83 million facility in a 48 to 11 vote. Leaders of Torrington and the two competing towns of Rawlins (which already has a maximum security prison) and Riverton viewed the prison as an economic development tool, but as previous issues of Justice Matters pointed out, many of the residents in those towns campaigned against the construction.
