OR: Prisoner Shot at SRCI
June 10, 2008 - 10:39am
In early April, a guard at Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) shot and wounded a prisoner during a fight in the recreation area. News reports indicate that at least 120 people were involved in a fight and five warning shots were fired before the guard fired into the crowd.
As of April 10, the three prisoners hospitalized due to the fight, including the person who was shot, had been returned to SRCI. The names of the prisoners and guards have not been released.
In the last ten years, warning shots have been fired at Oregon prisons ten times. Until now, no one was shot when guns were used. Oregon State Penitentiary, Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution, and Snake River Correctional Institution are the prisons where shots have been fired.
