NATL: House Passes Second Chance Act

In November, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 1593, more popularly called the Second Chance Act.

The version of the Second Chance Act passed by the House authorizes $55 million for state and local governments to aid people in their transitions back to the community from prison and jail. There’s an additional $15 million in the bill for community-based mentoring, transitional, and faith-based projects.

The bill had strong bi-partisan support in the House and passed with a 347 to 62 vote. The bill must also be passed by the Senate and signed by the president to become law.
