ID: More Prisoners Sent to OK

Idaho continues to send its prisoners to private prisons in other states. First it was Texas, and now it’s Oklahoma. In April, 120 people from the North Fork Correctional Facility in Idaho were transferred to a prison in Sayre, Oklahoma operated by the private Correctional Corporation of America. By summer, the Idaho Department of Corrections anticipates that it will send another 120 prisoners to Oklahoma.

Including the recent transfer, there are 240 Idaho prisoners in Oklahoma, and 373 at the Bill Clayton Detention Center, another private prison in Texas. Idaho also has 600 state prisoners incarcerated in contract beds in county jails.
