ID: Privatization Plan Withdrawn
Idaho’s Governor C. L. Butch Otter has given up on plans to let private corporations build and operate prisons in Idaho. While a private corporation does operate one of Idaho’s state prisons, Governor Otter was pushing for new legislation to permit corporations to build and own the prisons as well. Legislators, however, did not support this idea so the Governor backed down. Now, it’s up to the Idaho Legislature to decide whether or not to issue a bond for new prison construction.
