Bill Prohibiting Charging Interest to Prisoners Passes Senate

Senate Bill 629-A, Sen. Vicki Walker’s bill which bars the charging of interest on judgments while a person is in prison, passed the Senate recently. Sen. Walker came up with the idea for the bill following PSJ’s community conversation in Eugene. The bill now moves to the House, where it is awaiting committee assignment.

A second bill sponsored by Sen. Walker, SB 628, which bars discrimination in employment and housing based solely on arrest records, is scheduled for work session in the Senate Commerce Committee this week.
